Default Change in the totals in Adsense

Not sure if this is the correct place to post but I wondered if anyone else has seen a sudden change in the daily totals of their adsense account.

I recently changed to the new UI but I doubt this has anything to do with it.

Before my Adsense total for the day would start small and gradually rise as the day went on totalling up this way throughout the day in an upward step.

Just recently though everytime I go to my Adsense account and refresh it jumps from high to low and back again all day. I know the total is estimated and worked outby the worth of the clicks, but why now for example.

First thing this morning my total was 00.23, it rose gradually over a few hours to something like 27 clicks and 06.46 in the total, then a while ago refresh again shows 31 clicks and a total of 01.12.

I've never had a descreasing total before and wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this change and mainly to be sure it's not something I have set up wrong?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Because Google AdSense changed how they manage the reporting pipeline.

Google AdSense engineer, Guillaume, said, "since May 14, earnings for the current day reported in the interface may now fluctuate, due to a change in the reporting pipeline."

Google has ((login for URL)) explaining the issues, saying that now they show gross click counts before they may discount those clicks due to invalid clicks.

    Quote from the Document:
You might see fluctuations in earnings reflected in your Performance reports due to the lag between gross click counts and invalid click detection. Total clicks are reflected quickly and then adjusted downward for any invalid clicks, which take longer to process.

After clicks occur, estimated earnings are increased based on these recorded clicks. However, processing for invalid clicks is completed after this initial estimate, and the corresponding earnings might then be revised downward in your reports. This behavior is noticeable mostly for accounts with low traffic volume or a high proportion of invalid clicks.

Please be assured that after these initial fluctuations, earnings eventually stabilize, and earnings are computed in the same manner as they were prior to this change, which was effective beginning May 14, 2011. Note that finalized earnings, which are reported at the end of every month, might also reflect further adjustments.

But wouldn't invalid clicks suggest clicking on your own ads or do these describe something else?

Whenever Google deems a click to not be made out of interest for the Ad or "wasn't useful" for the Advertiser the click is counted as invalid. E.g. you click on an Ad and immediately click the back button (But that is my guess).

    Google says:
    What is an invalid click?

Invalid click activity consists of any clicks or impressions that may artificially inflate an advertiser's costs or a publisher's earnings, and for which we decide not to charge the advertiser. This includes, but is not limited to, clicks or impressions generated by a publisher clicking on his own ads, a publisher encouraging clicks on his ads, automated clicking tools or traffic sources, robots, or other deceptive software.

Please note that clicks on Google ads must result from genuine user interest, and any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions is strictly prohibited by our ((login for URL)).

That makes sense, I also wondered because the change seems to have had such a drastic effect if google have started added source sites to their invalid clicks. ie. Digg, Stumbleupon, Twitter, Facebook etc. the "easy" ways to build traffic, maybe these clicks are consider not good enough for advertisers because how easy it is to generate alot of traffic from them?

We don't know what they consider invalid clicks, but for sure it isn't only our own accidental ones. Personally it's been a long time ago I understood today's earnings reports must not be considered, only yesterday earnings can be evaluated. Because today's earnings can fluctuate so much, as well as the number of clicks and other datas. It is really a waste of time to analyse anything from today's adsense datas/reports, and it was way before that last change mentionned by StarBug.

    Hi First time poster here,

I think considered source sites to be an issue, I used to buy traffic from adcenter (for a long time, successfully), (which converts well for affiliate offers) but I had a drastic change in earnings out of nowhere. Once I stopped the earnings normalized.

I tested facebook traffic, that worked out well

Oh I need to ad, I used adsense as an exit link on landing pages.

My adsense is down 60% and I have unique, aged websites. Totally frustrating, as I don't know why this is happening.

If nothing else changed (e.g. traffic, or traffic sources) then your visitors are not converting for your advertisers.
    Try changing your Ad Placements.

Well, for me, google has decided to dramatically lower my rankings of my unique content, aged websites, so I'm sure a big part of it with me is lower traffic, but as I spend more time in here, I hope to learn better ad placements.
